Coins and Currency Weekly(c) is Published by Alan Cohen See bottom of message for unsubscribe instructions February 4, 1999 Issue #12 Delaware Quarter Winners Thanks to everyone who entered the contest last week - Over 100 people entered. The following five were randomly chosen to win a Delaware "P" Mint Washington Quarter. They just need to e-mail me with their postal mailing address (if they haven't already in the original message), the quarters will be sent next week. The winners are: Ted McMillion Jr. Chris Clark Jerome Taborda David E Beaster Lisa Volm Long Beach Collectibles Exposition Today is the concluding day of the February 1999 Long Beach show. I was able to attend the first day of the show, and had a very good time there. The bourse was active on Thursday, and there was a crowd waiting to get in the door. On-Line coin sites had a very good representation at the show, with Numismatists On-Line, Ebay, and Coin Universe all having booths at the show. There were many booths offering bullion, as it has become very popular with the general public to acquire this based on media reports of the impending Y2K situation. I noticed a few booths with the Delaware quarters for sale, anywhere from $12 to $15 per roll, and 50 cents to $1.00 each. I’ve still yet to receive one in change here in Southern California, I’ve never looked so closely at my quarters before. In a few weeks, these coins will be available in most places, and I believe the premium charge will disappear. However, I expect this to continue for the next ten years, since the same dealers will get the next coin earlier than the rest, and this cycle will continue to repeat itself. It appeared to me that there was less paper money on the bourse than I previously saw, but that could be just my perception. There definitely is less world material, US coins definitely rule this show. USA Cards creates a phonecard for every show, and they were not set up at this show. However, the tradition continues, and a card was issued with a foreign gold coin (with a rabbit on it) showing. It was available for $5. The next Long Beach show will be held in June. Join the ANA After putting it off for years, I decided it was time I was a member of the American Numismatics Association. Membership benefits are very nice, and include library privileges, and the monthly magazine, The Numismatist. When I made the decision to join, I wanted to do so instantaneously. Fortunately, they have a web page where you can take a minute or two aside to join. The web site is: http://www.money.org/ - While you are there, there are some interesting things to check out. The first is Money Talks - This is an ANA sponsored program that many people listen to on the radio, and read in print or on-line. The entire series of programs is available for you to listen to in audio format. The specific page to check out is: http://www.money.org/audiomain.html - There is also an ftp site with the scripts for Money Talks (just in case you do not have a sound card) as well as image files, press releases and software. That address is: ftp://ftp.money.org/ana/ Until Next Time, Alan Cohen Distribution Coins and Currency Weekly(c) (CCW) is published by Alan Cohen.
