Paper Money Net
I’d like to introduce everyone to a new web site that has just started called Paper Money Net – It is located at http://www.papermoney.net – It is a site for currency collectors. It is currently still under construction, as a list of links about collecting information will be added. You can visit and enter a contest to win a Civil War Confederate note. Be sure to bookmark the site
Coin Shows – Sunday Attendence
The ANA (American Numismatics Association) recently announced that they will be setting up a sytem to encourage dealers to stay for the last day of the show. If dealers pack up, they will lose a point, and if they stay, they will get a point. These points are good for priority positioning on the bourse. I think this is a great idea. Many collectors may not be able to attend the show until the last day. Recently, I was at the Long Beach show on a Sunday. A large majority of the dealers had indeed packed up and left. An empty bourse gives the wrong message to the public.
Internet Numismatics Auctions
Internet Auctions are becoming popular ways to buy and sell coins and currency. If you haven’t been to any of these sites, here are a few to visit:
E-Bay – http://www.ebay.com
At the time this was written, over 14,000 coin and currency auctions were in progress. These are individual auctions. Anyone can set up and auction, so as the old saying go, buyer beware. I’ve never had a bad experience on Ebay, a rating system helps keep auctioneers honest!
Numismatists On-Line -
http://www.numismatists.com/This is a service where professional numismatists can list their auctions. Everyone you deal with is professional, and there are auctions that close every day.
Yahoo Auctions –
http://auctions.yahoo.comThis is a relatively new service, and as of this writing more than 1,000 numismatics auctions were listed. This works similar to Ebay, and there is currently no fee to run an auction.
